What is Treatment Like?

Every patient is unique so I create a unique treatment plan for each patient. The goal is to find how what you can do and learn that will help you feel and function better as quickly as possible.

Apointment length

The first appointment is an hour in length. Subsequent sessions are usually 25 - 45 minutes.

Updates

Prior to each appointment you will receive a clinical update form, either at the end of a session, by mail or through this website. You are to use that to describe what has happened since your last visit and any concerns you wish to address in the appointment. I appreciate it if you can return that to me prior to your appointment as that allows me to prepare for your appointment in advance.

Arriving for your appointment

I encourage you to arrive several minutes early for your appointment so you can relax and unwind before we start. This helps you get the most out of your time with me. I also usually run on time or at most 5 minutes behind. If I am more than 10 minutes late, please knock on my door.

Appointment structure

We start by reviewing the clinical update form you have sent me. We go over any concerns you have as well as questions about medications if you are taking them. We then review the self-healing techniques you have been practicing and I will work with you on making those more effective or teach you new ones.

Some of the techniques I teach involve breathing and movement so please dress in comfortable loose-fitting clothing as tight clothes make it hard to practice these techniques.

I occasionally use biofeedback equipment to guide the way I teach. This will require me to place sensors on your arms, neck, or shoulders to record things like heart rate, muscle tension, finger temperature or blood flow.

I may also create an audio or video recording of part of the session for you to use as a training aid.

At the end of the appointment you will be given instructions on what to practice and any recommended medication changes.
